# Veganory Privacy Policy

Effective September 11, 2026.

Veganory helps people interpret product ingredients, dietary suitability, and general nutrition information.

## Information stored on your device

Your chosen dietary profile, alerts, saved products, shopping list, and recent scans are stored locally on your device. This starter account does not require an email address or password. You can remove this information by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.

## Information sent to Veganory

Barcode lookups send the barcode and basic technical request information to our service. When you voluntarily submit a product or ingredient-label photo, we may receive the image, barcode, extracted text, recognition confidence, contribution source, and a pseudonymous installation identifier. Community posts, reactions, and reports contain the text and location description you choose to provide.

We re-encode submitted images to remove EXIF metadata, including embedded location metadata, and to limit their size. Do not include people, receipts, addresses, or other personal information in product photos.

## How information is used

We use this information to return scan results, improve product records, detect duplicate or misleading submissions, moderate community content, diagnose technical failures, and protect the service from abuse. A clear contribution from one user may be shown provisionally; verified public status requires additional evidence and automated safety checks.

## Sharing and public contributions

Community posts and accepted product information may be visible to other users. We do not publicly display your dietary profile, installation identifier, email address, or password. We do not sell personal information. Service providers used for hosting, storage, security, and crash monitoring may process limited information on our behalf.

The catalogue may include attributed Open Food Facts data under the Open Database License. Some product images may be loaded from their original source until a reviewed Veganory image is available.

## Retention and deletion

Rejected or obsolete evidence is deleted according to our operational retention process. Accepted product facts may be retained to preserve catalogue accuracy. You may request removal of a contribution by contacting privacy@veganscan.app and providing the barcode, approximate date, and enough detail to locate it.

## Security and children

We use access controls, request limits, duplicate detection, moderation, and backups, but no system can guarantee absolute security. Veganory is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

## Your choices and contact

Submitting photos and community content is optional. You can use barcode lookup and local profile features without posting publicly. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact privacy@veganscan.app.

Vegan and nutrition results are informational. Recipes and manufacturing sources change; always check the physical label when an allergy or medical condition is involved.
